Superba Projects is pleased to present its debut exhibition, “Ephemeral Echoes”, on view for one night only, February 17, 5-10 pm. This exhibition, presented by 18-year-old curator, Brody Gray, will feature two artists working in entirely different mediums, exploring the transient nature of existence and the fleeting moments that leave a lasting impact: Juliette Montalba is from Los Angeles and Judith Supine currently resides in Mexico City.
While something “ephemeral” traditionally is fleeting, in reality, it is short-lived experiences that have the most lasting effects on us, echoing in continuum. “Impermanence creates a space for greater appreciation along with a heightened sense of novelty, allowing the viewer to observe intensely in order to preserve the occasion in their mind.
“Ephemeral Echoes” juxtaposes dream-like surreal artworks creating a dialogue within the exhibition space. Not ironically, the work will be up for five hours. Ultimately, the exhibition invites and encourages viewers to reflect on the beauty and significance of fleeting experiences and the echoes they leave behind.
Judith Supine, a prominent artist based in Mexico City, wants the world to know: Judith Supine is an artist living and working in Mexico City. Supine could not speak until a month after his seventeenth birthday. He could not physically articulate words, he could only squeak and grunt. Supine often drew pictures to communicate with his family. His mom saved all of his pictures, just one of many reasons why his mom is great.
Judith Supine uses materials that are free or at least real cheap. He uses an exacto knife, glue sticks, cheap ugly paints, and real sleazy magazines that make him sexually uncomfortable. Judith Supine gets his magazines out of people's trash, from the public library, from the dentist's offices, from his little sister's magazine collection, and from bankrupt porn shops.
Juliette Montalba is an L.A. artist working and living in Los Angeles, CA. She works in painting, weaving, drawing, and sculpture. Juliette’s work surrounds her memories, family, and loved ones. She explores nature, biology’s role in color, and our ecosystem in her works. She is currently receiving a B.A. at the University of California, Los Angeles Art and Architecture department. This is her first exhibition in NYC.
Superba Projects is a platform that aims to provide a space for emerging artists to showcase their distinctive visions and engage an audience in a thought-provoking visual experience regardless of the art maker’s experience or academic degree. Leaving out artists who don't have a degree or who haven’t established themselves yet would be ignorant. “All artists should have a chance to show their work; it should be about talent, not academic accomplishments. I created Superba Projects to democratize the experience of showing art and viewing art. At this level, the exchange of ideas is most important, not the awards or accolades.” says Gray. He anticipates this inaugural exhibition to set the stage for ongoing future collaborations and endeavors within the contemporary art scene.
True to the theme, The exhibition opens and closes on February 17th.
